Canino Farmer's Market (Airline)

So, I'm out with my mom today, helping her with some errands and since we're in the neighborhood she decides she wants to go to the Airline Farmer's Market.  I vaguely remember going to it in my childhood, but I have never been in my adult life.  She says when we were children she would go all the time and buy hoards of veggies and stock up.  She says it was cheap.

I love farmer's markets so we decide to stop by.  It's so close to my neighborhood and my work, I can't believe it's just a stone's throw and I'm just now going to this.  It's big, real big.  It's really cool like neat, but it's hot, like temperature.  I question if it's cheap.  If it is, it's not by much.  Walking in, I'm starting to vaguely remember going here.  As a child, I remember not liking it so much...I think I found it boring.  The heat is starting to trigger some memories too.  I think I would like coming here more if it was cooler.  It's a little unbearable for me, although they do have these big fans blowing air in...still hot.

As I'm walking, I decide I'll pick up a few things.  I really don't think it's that much cheaper, but can't be for sure.  As I'm walking my basket out to the outdoor area, the cashier yells out, "you can't take those groceries out of here, you have to pay!".  Oh, I didn't realize they were different businesses.  I only missed the several cashiers set up at the end of this warehouse!  So, I leave my basket behind while I check out the rest of the little shops.  I really love this whole concept, but I'm still thinking...it's hot and I'm thinking I would rather be in an air conditioned space right now.  I'm starting to sweat too and it's making me feel uncomfortable especially since I have to do some work later.

I'm persuaded into buying one of these mouth watering mangoes on a stick.  It's $1 for the small one, $2 for the big one.  He asks, spicy or regular?  I get the regular.  As I peel off the plastic wrap, I'm thinking...did he wash his hands when he cut this?  Ah whatever, some dirt never hurt anyone.  I think it's really cool how they jammed up a stick into this mango, it's so nifty.  I shall return....when it's cooler.  I'll have to come again with a friend or the boyfriend and see what they think to put the final thoughts together about this whole farmer's market thing...at least on being a regular thing.  Anyways, it's definitely neat, go by on a cooler day and let me know if you think it's priced cheaper, like my mom says.

Teahouse (Memorial)

I used to be a big Teahouse groupie, or maybe their #1 customer.  I haven't had one in a while but this new location made me kind of crave it.  So, for old times sake I stopped in on my way out of Snap Kitchen, which is next door.  On a side note, the Chicken Butternut squash is really good, must try.  So is the Buffalo Quinoa Hash...so good it makes you think this can't be healthy.  Ok, so anyways, I get me a milk tea, and they said it's buy one get one free.  Awesome!  It comes out to just under $5, which is outrageous, but I don't think prices changed all that much.  It's amazing how expensive these types of teas and coffees are!  Anyways, it was good and it was just as I remembered it.  I had mine with the regular boba and took the free one back to the office to share with Alexa.  They also had macaroons and other fun things.

Barnaby's Cafe

Thought I saw something somewhere say Barnaby's Cafe and decided it was not a new restaurant but a new way to describe the Barnaby's restaurants.  But then, I was in downtown and saw it and instantly wanted to go at that moment!  Instead I went a couple of weeks later.  Somehow Barnaby's always seems to trap so much noise in their restaurants, it's very loud!  I still like the atmosphere.  It's the corporate crowd.  Our food comes out and it's adorable as usual.  I thought my egg salad sandwich tasted more wet and more mayoee.  They also had their own homemade chips at this location, which I have not seen that before, but I think maybe it's because I usually get fries.  I only ate half of my sandwich, which is normal, but I just couldn't get myself to eat the other half as a snack later and now...I think I'm officially over the egg salad sandwich.  I would still go back though!  C'mon it's Barnaby's!

Torchy's Tacos (Shepherd)

Another place I have been meaning to visit since they opened, some ago, probably a year now.  They did that weird change of names before opening and I was just never really that interested in going.  I had heard they came down from Austin, heard that the location here wasn't as good as Austin, then I saw them open a locaiton in Rice Village...all this floating around in my head and still somewhat interested in visiting, but not a whole lot of motivation.  So yesterday, Matt, Eth and I decide we want to do something easy, casual, kind of maybe festive, good crowd, so I yelp and Torchy's comes up and we decide, eh ok, let's try it.

On entering, you walk in through the outdoor patio and it's actually kind of dark, not a whole lot of lighting.  Not as festive as I was picturing in my head, but not bad still a decent crowd.  The interior was simple, we walk up to the counter, there are these two guys with these really groovy afros.  The black guy pictured here helped us and he was super nerdy cool and was very nice and helpful.  I was leaning towards the Independent taco that had a ton of veggies.  I told our super nerdy cool helper I lean more towards veggies and not towards heavy meats, and he suggested I try the Fried Avocado.  I was a bit hesitant, but decided to order both, food picture #1.  (Fried Avocado on left, Independent on right).  He knew what he was talking about, the Fried Avocado was really good and had great combination of flavors wich a nice kick and textures, while the Independent was kind of bland tasting.  I had both on corn, but you can pick.  Each taco is $3.50!

Our helper says the top three listed on the chalk board are the most popular, which are Green Chile Pork, Fried Avocado and the Trailer Park.  Matt ordered the Green Chile Pork and the Mr. Pink.  He said the Green Chile Pork was amazing.  I tried his Mr. Pink (ahi tuna) and I thought that was good too, but we both thought the pork barbacoa was really good.  Our helper gives good advice!  Eth got just two plain beef tacos.  We also ordered the chips and salsa and it looked simple enough but was actually really good too, nices spices and flavors.  We all really liked the experience, overall food was great, environment was casual and the staff were great helpers.  Me gusto mucho!
